It is connected not only with the fact that the decorative floor fountains can be a worthy part of interior and a highlight it, but with significant development of technologies used in their creation. Creativity in your home décor makes it stand out from everything else.  Custom fountains are a great way to use your creativity for the interiors of your home. Designing a custom fountain offers you flexibility in terms of incorporating a style, using a particular color, placement of the fountain and using the type of material that you wish. There are many things you can do while designing your own fountain.

Copper and stainless steel are very popular choices, when it comes to selecting the material for a custom fountain. The frames can be made of steel or copper and you can give your personal touch by painting a pattern or engraving a design to it. Adding a glass finish to the frame makes the water look sleek and shiny as it falls down gently. The materials that you can use for the fountain’s face include mirror, glass and slate.

Next is the choice of a suitable shape, lighting and size for the custom water fountain. Choose a place in your house where you would like to place this water feature. All you need to do is tell the engineers where you want it and how you want it and it will be done for you. Including a lighting effect to the custom fountain gives the vibrancy that is required for the home’s décor.

After the custom fountain installed you will have your own space in the house, where you can retire whenever you wish. The slowly rolling down water gives a nice ambiance to the whole house.

A Feng Shui Fountain: Believe It or Not

30 04 2012

I grew up in household with a lot of beliefs, particularly feng shui, which is developed by the Chinese some 3000 years ago. Feng shui has been believed to have an impact on the energies of a certain space that when properly arranged may give good health and even fortune to those people inhabiting the place.

One thing I could never forget about feng shui that my grandmother told me was about the great energy water contains, that is evidently found in water fountains. She spoke of feng shui fountains as sources of good luck for a household – and behold we had one in our ancestral home.

Fountains are well known in feng shui; they are believed to carry the energy and vitality of water, which in feng shui symbolizes fortune and wealth. When feng shui fountains are situated indoors, healthy energy is diffused into the air surrounding the household.

The area where you place your feng shui fountains speaks of different types of energy given. If you want your career to succeed, place your feng shui fountain on the north; for health, have it in the east and for abundance in life, situate it in the southeast part of the household.

According to feng shui believers, the addition of crystals in the feng shui fountain may strengthen the energy being released and diffused to the household.

I have been exposed to these kinds of beliefs ever since I was a child; however, I haven’t actually brought the practice to my own home today. At some point, I wanted to and then at times, I didn’t. These beliefs may have molded some people’s approach on things and even the way the see things, but I belief that fortune is what you make of it. Having a feng shui fountain wouldn’t hurt; after all, it also makes a good decorative add-on to the house.

A New Kind of Centerpiece: A Tabletop Fountain

17 04 2012

Crowded flower vases are often used as table centerpieces in homes and at various functions, but if you want to stand out from the rest, a tabletop water fountain would make a beautiful and exotic table centerpiece. A table fountain is a decorative water fountain that is usually large enough to catch the eyes of your visitors and guests, but also small enough to not overcrowd your table.

The unfortunate thing about having a water fountain for a table centerpiece is that it makes sense to have it constantly running if you tend to have guests coming and going consistently, and with the hike in energy bills, this may be an unwanted expense. But if you can afford it, or is in an environment where it does not have to be on all the time, then go for it.

Another solution would be to get a battery operated tabletop fountain. The Clasped Hands Tabletop Fountain is one such option, measuring at a lovely 4 ¼” by 6” and costing less than 30 bucks! This beautiful battery operated table fountain features a lovely cascading waterfall and allows you to relinquish yourself from the burden of electric chords and electric bills. You can use one or more of these tabletop fountains in any décor to generate an environment that scream relaxation and tranquility.  I know you are probably wondering about the monstrous size batteries that the fountain may need to work, but the good news is that they use regular AA batteries which you can easily source at any supermarket or corner store.

You can use these fountains anywhere; at home, on your desk at work or make them into a unique centerpiece for any function table. They are so versatile because they can be situated anywhere without worrying about being close to an outlet.

Another determining factor is generally the style of the fountains and that is usually dependent on the location that the fountain is going to be placed in. Often times tiered fountains and other feng shui fountains are used in gardens, especially if they are to be situated in the center. But there are other ways to implement a fountain into your garden and that is to have it situated on the garden wall. Wall fountains are very classy and they take up minimal space while still providing the desired effect that running water always seems to bring. If you become fond of the outdoor wall fountain, you may also consider installing an indoor wall fountain to bring the peace and serenity of the outdoors inside with you. If you decide to get an indoor water fountain, you however do not have to necessarily mount it on your wall if this is undesired, you can actually get a floor fountain which resembles a standing wall fountain.
